Main Characters - HZGG II

HZGG I :: HZGG II

Qing Er

Played by Wan Yan

Qing Er is a princess whom Lao Fo Ye is extremely fond of. She is the emperor's niece, raised by Lao Fo Ye from her youth after her parents die. Qing Er is very smart, talented, and pretty. She is almost always seen at the old lady's side, giving counsel and soothing the lady when another one of Xiao Yan Zi's antics has her worked up. She possesses a strong persuasion power, often convincing the lady to not pursue the two princesses. Qing Er likes Er Kang, and Lao Fo Ye tries to get the two together. But after she realizes Er Kang's deep feelings for Zi Wei, Qing Er stops liking him, and she persuades Lao Fo Ye to try not to ruin the relationship between Er Kang and Zi Wei for her sake. At Er Kang and Zi Wei's wedding, she bumps into Xiao Jian...can it be love at first sight?

Han Xiang (Xiang Fei)

Played by Liu Dan

Han Xiang is a princess given to the emperor as a peace gift by her father. She is very pretty and possesses a strange, flowery scent that often attracts butterflies. Huang Shang falls in love with her beauty and talent, and he tries to make her his concubine. But unbeknownst to him, Han Xiang is already in love with somebody else - Meng Dan. Xiao Yan Zi and Zi Wei become friends with her, and they learn about Meng Dan and her relationship. They help the two keep in contact, while planning the day when they can sneak her out of the palace to Meng Dan. The problem is her original scent...the flowery scent is one of a kind, and even if they succeeded in sneaking her out, the palace's dogs could track down her whereabouts.

Meng Dan

Played by Mou Feng Bin

Meng Dan is Han Xiang's lover. He has known her since childhood, but Han Xiang's father does not approve of his courtship with his daughter. Han Xiang's father tells him to leave at once after Meng Dan asks him for his daughter's hand in marriage. While journeying from her home city to Beijing, Meng Dan and his friends attack the carriages, trying to 'kidnap' Han Xiang. It fails though, and Meng Dan retreats, injured. Meng Dan first meets Xiao Yan Zi and the gang at Liu Qing's restaurant. Xiao Yan Zi gets into a fight with him, though she stops after she realizes that he's injured. He tells them his and Han Xiang's story, a story that stirs up their emotions. Xiao Yan Zi dubs him "shi fu" (a teacher/master whom one admires and tries to learn from). They sneak him into the royal palace twice to see Han Xiang, and the two are finally reunited and married near the middle of HZGG II.

Lao Fo Ye

Played by Zhao Min Fen

She is the emperor's mother. She dislikes Xiao Yan Zi and Zi Wei at once after their first meeting because they greet her with dirty, messy faces, completely unlike the delicate princesses to whom she is accustomed. Lao Fo Ye is very fond of Qing Er, the girl she took in after her parents' deaths. She likes soft-spoken, literate people - a main reason why she dislikes Xiao Yan Zi. She is also distrustful of Zi Wei and whether she is really the daughter of Huang Shang and Yu He. The empress always speaks evil of the two girls, furthering the old lady's dislike for Xiao Yan Zi and Zi Wei. She disapproves of the betrothal of Yong Qi and Xiao Yan Zi, Er Kang and Zi Wei. She feels that Xiao Yan Zi is too feather-headed to be trusted as the possible empress of China if Yong Qi becomes emperor. She also wants Qing Er to be with Er Kang, not Zi Wei. Despite her cold attitude towards the two princesses in the story, she is really a kind old dear. This is seen towards the end of the series...where she has a change of heart towards the two princesses.

Xiao Jian

Played by Zhu Hong Jia

This young man is first introduced when Xiao Yan Zi and company are discussing their plans at Liu Qing's restaurant on how to sneak Han Xiang out of the palace. While talking, they hear music playing from the other room, and they realize that this man could have heard their entire conversation. Xiao Yan Zi chases after Xiao Jian, angry at him for eavesdropping on their conversation. The gang eventually accepts him though, and they include him in their plans for Han Xiang's escape. He later proves to be a good ally, living up to his name (Flute & Sword. His real name is Fang Yan though). He is a good martial artist, helping save Zi Wei and Xiao Yan Zi from death. He has various friends all over China whom they seek while on the run from the palace. He dotes on Xiao Yan Zi a lot, creating friction between him and Yong Qi. Yong Qi is extremely jealous of him...until they learn the truth about who he really is...Xiao Jian is Xiao Yan Zi's blood brother! Xiao Jian wants to assassinate the emperor because the emperor had given his entire family the death sentence long ago, but Xiao Yan Zi is not aware of this.
